Arkansas.(1) (2)(3) (5)(6) (7)(8) He died on 21 Nov 2000 in Springfield, Greene County, Missouri. He was buried on 25 Nov 2000 in Greenlawn Cemetery, Springfield, Greene County, Missouri. Served in Company A, Motor Transport Division, 2nd Marines in World WarII. Some events recal led by him were:
Knowing General Smith, a four star General from Kansas that liked him andhad him drive him so metimes. To qualify as a driver, each Marine had todrive a truck uphill on some sandy soil , Dad was the first one in hiscompany to successfully do this, as he basically just gunned it . Herecalled that the Marines were to have spit-shined shoes, but the onesissued to them ha d some sort of fuzz like material on them. A fellowMarine told him to burn the fuzz off, whi ch Dad did, and this permittedhim to get a better shine. In Basic training, all the recruit s wouldhave to give up all their knives and other belongings, and these were putinto a Barrel . Dad had a nice pocket knife and hated to give it up, buthe had to, and never saw it again . When his company was allowed toretrieve their belongings, someone had taken his knife, s o Dad found aknife better then the one he'd lost. He could get stuff from this Barrelwheneve r he wanted to, when driving the recruits to and from BasicTraining.

He drove the Marine Corps band to and from engagements as well as drivingnew recruits to an d from Basic Training. He drove a bus. Once theMarine Corp band had to stay the night at Ac tress Betty Davis' home, after a late performance and so Dad got to meet her and they all were treated very nice and fed very well. He would also have to take USOgirls (and their chaperon es) to various dances and events. One younglady lived on an Orange farm, where the orange tr ees were growing on theside of the roads. Dad would put the windows down on the buss (theysw ung outward back then) and drive very close to the trees, so that thewindows would knock of f oranges and they'd fall into the bus. He alsowould go through the bus after the Marines we re going and coming fromLeaves and pick up items they left and put them into a locked box o n thebus. Any not claimed, he'd sell or keep for himself, as they didn't haveany ID tags o n them.

He was stationed in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, after sometime in San Diego,California (this was af ter the bombing of Pearl Harbor). There he was amessenger and drove a motorcycle, sometime s with orders not to let anyonestop him on official business. He later worked in the Officer 's Club andfound many ways to get fringe benefits. He once spent six days in thebrig for try ing to sneak on a troop ship bound for New Caladonia. Oneother time he crashed a Marine vehi cle due to the use of "Blackoutlighting". The court marshal board wanted him to spend 6 mont hs in thebrig and face a dishonorable discharge, but Gen. Smith stood up and saidthat he kne w this Marine and that he was a good fellow. He said that 2weeks confined to barracks woul d suffice. And since General Smith wasthe ranking General, that is all the punishment he rec eived.

Dad refused his paychecks for over a year, as he was living in thebarracks and as a bartende r in the Officer's club, could get nearlyanything he needed. When he was Honorably Discharge d, he cashed all hischecks in and so had a lot of money to take home to Arkansas.

Died at his home on Crestview Street of an apparent heart attack around3:30 PM while sittin g on the couch looking through his mail. He diedquickly and peacefully. Parents: Albert Davis and Dovie Hattie Ann Price. Parents: Albert Davis.
